The One Thing Standing In Your Way of Thanking and Giving

The One Thing Standing In Your Way of Thanking and Giving

The one thing that is standing in your way of thanking and giving is…YOU!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year because it combines a few of my favorite self-care activities all within a 24 hour timespan.

  1. Eating delicious food.
  2. Scoring amazing deals on items.
  3. The opportunity to spend time with my family.

Thanksgiving is also the national holiday emphasizing gratitude. During this holiday, we all answer the question, ”What are you thankful for in your life?” Some people even seek ways in which to “give back” by donating food items and/or serving meals to the less fortunate.

I have been growing in the areas of being more thankful and giving. Now, when I said give what was the first thing you thought? MONEY (I’m sure). Giving entails more than handing someone a few or even hundreds of dollars.

Giving comes in many different forms. It could be a smile, a hug, a handshake, a note (letter, email or text), an open door, a cup of coffee or it could consist of you sharing your journey and lessons with someone else. The list of ways to give is endless.

I know I have been guilty of the “well when I have more, I’ll give” school of thought. I recently was reflecting on that thought and asked myself “What does more look like? You have more than what you had 5 years ago or even a year ago, so when will you stop making excuses and give what you have to help others without expecting anything in return…even a thank you.”

After that introspective wake up call, I decided to actively FIND a reason to say thanks and give daily for the month of November.

I am so thankful for where I have been, where I am now, where I’m going and all who have given to me.

Because I am thankful, I can give. Because I can give, I am thankful.

Lesson:  Remove any mental blocks that are holding you back from being an intentionally thankful giver.

Challenge: For the rest of the month of November make it your intention to practice being thankful and giving. Jot down your outlook on thanking and giving before and after the challenge. I would love to hear about your experience during this challenge. Email me, tweet me or leave a comment below. Share your experience daily with the hashtag #thanksandgiving . Thank you for giving and sharing!
