Be Purposed in the Present

Be purposed in the present.  This is my intention and guiding principle when practicing self-care.

Mindfulness is a skill that has helped me actualize this intention through my self-care practice.

Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present.  You teach your mind to focus on what is in front of you right at this very moment.  It requires you to be still. It requires you to activate all of your senses.  It requires you to be present.

What do see right now?

What do you hear right now?

What do you smell right now?

What do you taste right now?

What do you feel right now?

All of those questions are things you can ask yourself to help bring you to the present moment. Take a moment and try it.

What did you notice?  How was that moment for you?  What did you find yourself focusing on?

Being present requires being mindful.

I like to do this exercise regularly since it is so easy to get caught up in future thinking.  When we spend so much time either in the past or the future we miss out on what is happening in the present.

Be purposed in the present.

I’m learning to appreciate the gift that can only be found in the present.  Living intentionally is another value I’m adopting for my life.  Start doing things with a purpose because every action has an equal or opposite reaction.  What reaction are you looking for from your life?  Knowing the answer to that question can guide you on what you need to prioritize in the present.

Commit to self-care. Commit to being mindful. Commit to being intentional. Commit to being purposed in your present.

Take 15 minutes to meditate on what being purposed in the present looks and feels like to you.

Be well,
