Self-Care is Living My Best Life

Reason number 29 why I decided to make self-care a priority this year is…

Self-Care is living my best life.

Living my best life is a phrase that is gaining a lot of popularity recently, but I have found that when people are intentional about living their best lives, they actually end up living their best lives.

My best life is not your best life and that’s OKAY!

I am finding more and more that the ideal of my best life continues to evolve as I learn more about a variety of subjects and have new experiences (which I was busy doing weeks 27 and 28…).  My best life is more holistic in nature.  {Read: I’m growing.}

As I was busy “living my best life” these past few weeks, I learned that none of this would be possible without self-care.  Self-care allows me to live my best life.  I cannot live my best life when I do not feel my best.  I cannot be my best when I am not taking care of myself.  I wouldn’t even have the energy to try to live my best life if I did not take the time to “recharge my batteries.”  One thing about me is that when I live…I LIVE and I need all of my energy to fully experience the life that I’m living at the time.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I have grown to honor and respect my need for balance in all aspects of my life.  Learning to do regular check-ins with myself mentally, physically and emotionally is a practice that I am grateful to live out consistently.  This practice told me just this week “Hey girl, it’s time to go back to the gym.” As well as, “Hey girl, have a seat and take a couple of naps.”  It’s oh so easy and yet oh so dangerous to overlook what your mind, body and/or spirit is telling you it needs to feel balanced.

Whether you need a Girl’s Trip, some quiet time alone, an impromptu meet up with a friend, to reach out to someone you haven’t heard from in a while, a workout, a gallon of water a day…whatever it is, honor it, plan for it and make it happen without excuses.

I know I’m living my best life when there are more good days than bad days.  Not because situations are not present that could create a bad day, but because I the manner in which I choose to respond to the situations still allow me to have a good day.  I know I’m living my best life when I am healthy mentally, physically, financially, emotionally and spiritually.  I know I’m living my best life when I am consistently doing my morning meditations.  I know I’m living my best life when I am practicing self-care.

Are you living your best life? How do you or would you know?

May your actions each day bring you closer to truly living your best life.

Be well.
