Self-care Is…

Self-care is whatever you need it to be in this moment.

In this moment, many of us are exhausted, tired, sad, angry and frustrated while at the same time being energized to be catalysts for change against the systemic oppression of Black Americans.  Whether we realize it or not, we are living in a multi-layered traumatic time.

In this moment, I can confidently say that self-care is needed.

It can be a nap.  It can be a glass of water.  It can be a day that the television stays off.  It can be  signing a petition.  It can be a boundary.  The options are limitless.

Let it be something to you in this moment.

Trauma: a deeply distressing or disturbing experience.

Seeing death.  Trauma.  Hearing of death.  Trauma.  Seeing violence.  Trauma.

Allow self-care to be whatever you need in this moment of reoccurring trauma.  Allow self-care to be your safe space.

If the weight of all this trauma is too heavy, consider talking to a licensed professional.  Now more than ever is a good time to seek the support of a mental health professional.

Stay well.
