Self-Care is a Social Activity

Reason number 15 why I made self-care a priority this year is because….

Self-care is a social activity.

Over the past week, I have experienced self-care in a few social activities.  I know your eyebrow might be raised as self-care is typically described as an event or activity you do to focus on yourself, your well-being and your needs.  How can that be done socially around others?

Great question.

The majority of my self-care activities are solo events.  I enjoy the quiet moments I have with myself, but this past week was different.

I was able to meet up with a friend and we hung out.  Nothing extravagant; just great food, great conversation and a great scene topped off with a little people watching.  While in the moment I thought,”Man, this really feels good.”  We had no real plans.  No real set agenda.  We just explored and went where it felt right to go in the city.  No stress.  No pressure.  No expectations.  We just went with the flow and had an amazing night.

When was the last time you hung out with a really good a friend?  A friend that you may not have talked or seen in a while?  A friend that no matter how much time lapses between conversations you pick back up as if you just spoke the other day.

Self-care can be a solo event or it can be a social event with the right people.  {Key words: RIGHT PEOPLE}

Make time to occasionally hang out with your supportive friend(s).  The friend(s) that laugh with you, cry with you and always push you towards personal growth.  According to Maslow, we all have a need to belong.  Make sure you are connected to the right people.  Self-care is also a social activity.
